AUTHOR'S NOTE - This is just a very very short fic, I have a relly (relative for all non- Australians) asleep out on the couch so I decided to get in a BG fix, I'm sooooooo a junkie! Is there such a thing as BG anonymous?

Buffy had a need, she needed to see Giles. Nothing big was going on, no great emergency, she just needed to be around him. She had to hear his voice, smell his cologne, see his sweet face. 'Ok it's official I'm head over heels in love with Giles, I'm making excuses to spend time with him now, I'm way gone.' She stood in front of his door racking her brain for an excuse to explain her presence. She didn't want to lie to him, too many lies had come between them before, but what was a legitimate reason other than I love you and I missed you? Her hand raised as she prepared to knock on his door but a sound from inside stopped her. Giles cleared his throat and began to idly strum a guitar. Buffy had never heard him sing but from what the others had told her she was in for a treat.

She opened the door a crack and peered inside, silently cursing Giles for once again forgetting to lock it. Giles was in the living room sitting on a stool, his back to her. 'Perfect!' she thought. She slipped inside with slayer stealth and stood against the door waiting to hear him begin. He took a deep breath and started to strum a steady tune on his guitar, she recognised the chords, 'wasn't it in that Tarzan movie?' His voice joined the strumming and she was blown away. He had a husky, deeply sexy lilt to it, 'there's nothing in the world like a man who can sing' she sighed contentedly.

'Come stop your crying it will be alright
Just take my hand, hold it tight
I will protect you from all around you
I will be here don't you cry'

That was just like Giles, he took care of them all, people thought she was the protector of the group because of the whole slayer gig but it was really Giles they all leaned on.

'For one so small you seem so strong
My arms will hold you keep you safe and warm
This bond between us can't be broken
I will be here don't you cry'

'Oh God how I'd love for his arms to hold me. Huh this song could really be about me, I mean the whole for one so small you seem so strong thing, I wonder if Giles noticed that?'

'Cause you'll be in my heart
Yes you'll be in my heart
From this day on now and forever more

You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You'll be here in my heart always'

She wished he was singing this to her rather than he being an unseen witness, she'd love it if Giles meant these lyrics for her.

'Why can't they understand the way we feel
They just don't trust what they can't explain
I know we're different but deep inside us
We're not that different at all

And you'll be in my heart
Yes you'll be in my heart
From this day on now and forever more'

She heard a retched sob amongst the lyrics, watched as he took a deep breath and carried on.

'Don't listen to them cause what do they know
We need each other to have to hold
They'll see in time I know...'

She wanted to reach out and hold him it was obvious this song had meaning for him, if only it were her he was singing about.

'When destiny calls you, you must be strong
I may not be with you but you've got to hold on
They'll see in time I know... We'll show them together'

These lyrics were spooky, destiny? Her whole stupid life revolved around destiny, could he be singing about her?

'Cause you'll be in my heart
Believe me you'll be in my heart
I'll be there from this day on now and forever more'

She shuddered as her tears began to fall, she could hear the emotion, the pain throbbing through him as he sang. She wanted to comfort him, to take away all the pain he'd ever felt but there was so much.

'You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
I'll be with you, you'll be here in my heart
I'll be there always

Always.... I'll be with you
I'll be there for you always, always and always
Just look over your shoulder
Just look over your shoulder
Just look over your shoulder
I'll be there always'

He placed the guitar on the floor and held his face in his hands. She watched as his back shook with emotion. "Oh my dearest Buffy, if only I could tell you how I feel."
She froze, her entire central nervous system shut down. Did he really just say what she thought she'd heard? Could he truly feel the same for her?
"I love you Buffy, God how I love you!" He began to sob again and her heart shattered to see him in such agony. Well this time there was something she could do about it, he'd never feel this way again, not while she was around.

She stepped quietly forward until she was right behind him. Her hand reached out and landed softly on his shoulder causing him to squeal in a decidedly girly fashion.
"Buffy!" He hurriedly wiped his face with a sleeve and moved toward the kitchen hoping she'd not heard too much. She grabbed his arm and spun him to face her, the tears continuing to course down her own cheeks. Concern for her, as always overwhelmed his own fears and he asked her what had happened.
"I found out the man I've loved since...forever, feels the same. These are happy tears Giles."
He stuttered and she giggled at how adorable he was in that state. His heart leapt into his throat and he was unable to move or think.

She placed a hand on his cheek and gently stroked it. "I love you Giles, I just never dreamt you'd feel the same."
He shook himself and the paralysis vanished, his fear and doubt flew away and all that remained was love and bliss. "How could I not luv? You're a blinding light in a horrible world, don't you see how those around you flock to your side even though it could mean danger, perhaps even death? You're you Buffy, not just a slayer but a beautiful woman, one whom I love with all I am. Let me love you dearheart, I'll spend my every breath with only your happiness in mind." She crumbled, no one had said such things to her, except in her dreams. Giles truly was the 'Prince Charming' every little girl wanted to grow up and marry, hey he even had the accent down.

"I don't deserve you Giles." He shushed her and placed two fingers on her lips, she closed her eyes and allowed the feeling of his touch to consume her. He smiled and leant down to seal his pledge with a kiss. When his lips replaced the fingers she thought she'd die. She prayed that the hellmouth would allow them a happy ever after but knew that was as unlikely as Angel and Cordelia ever falling in love. If nothing else she'd have a soul mate to share the hard times with and that was a gift she'd always treasure.
