“This party kinda sucks,” Dawn noted. She half-heartedly blew a noisemaker and threw it across the room into Xander’s lap. She sat back on the sofa and sighed.

“You said it,” Willow agreed. “Where’s Buffy?”

“She’s in the kitchen, making more appetizer thing-ys with Tara,” Anya said. “I want to give Xander his birthday present, but I can’t do it here. ‘Cause it involves nudity and lots of hot, sweaty sex.”

Xander flushed, but his eyes sparkled mischievously. “Know what I want as my birthday present?” he asked. “I want to see Buffy and Giles get together. God knows they’re in love with each other. Make a damn move already!”

“No kidding. I wish there was a spell that would help in this. Oh,” Willow said. A slow smile spread across her face as an idea formed. “Oh. Oh, oh! I’ve got it! I’ve got the perfect idea!”

“Idea for what?” Tara asked. She carried cans of soda and popcorn for everybody. Everybody grabbed for the sodas as Tara put the popcorn down on the coffee table. She sat next to Willow and the redhead took her hand, interlacing their fingers.

“Getting Buffy and Giles together,” Dawn said as she opened her drink and took a sip.

“It’s about damn time,” Tara muttered under her breath.

“I’m sorry. But I’ve been waiting so long for those two to wake up and smell the magic, but it ain’t happening anytime soon.”

Willow smiled. “It will tonight. Consider it our birthday present to Xander.”

“But how are we going to do this?” the birthday boy asked.

“Yeah, Giles is in England,” Anya noted. Willow’s smile grew even wider. “I shouldn’t be telling you this, but Giles is coming in as a surprise. He was going to swing by the house and give you your birthday present. He said he’d be here promptly at eight-thirty.”

Dawn looked at her watch. “3...2...1...” There was a knock at the front door. Anya jumped out of her seat so fast Xander thought that she saw a rabbit. “I got it Buffy!” she yelled. Anya flung open the door and dragged a very harassed Watcher inside the center of the living room.

“It’s good to see you Anya, but I would like to know—”

“Freeze!” Willow held her hand up as if she was stopping traffic. Giles stopped, and stood stock still, unable to do anything. The rest of the Gang stood and anticipated Buffy’s arrival into the living room.

“He’s…still alive right?” Xander anxiously asked.

“Cover Buffy, Tara,” Willow commanded. Her blonde girlfriend moved into action, crossing the living room in three quick strides. Buffy entered the room with bags of chips and dips.

“Hey guys, I got—”

With a quick swish of Tara’s hand, Buffy was frozen to the spot. Tara pried the bags and the small containers out of her grasp and placed them gently on the coffee table.

“Yeah, they’re still alive,” Willow answered Xander’s question. “They’re…frozen in time, so to speak.”

“We’re going to move them so that when they unfreeze, the position the two are in will have to make them realize their true feelings,” Tara added.

“Good plan,” Anya said.

“Kinda like that one skit on Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Dawn asked. There was a slight pause all around the room. Tara’s face broke into a naughty grin.

“Yeah. Something like that.”

An hour and several hysterical poses later, which had Dawn and Xander rolling on the ground, Buffy and Giles were wrapped in each other’s arms. To someone who didn’t know these two, it would seem like a friendly hug. To the Scooby Gang, it was something much more than that.

“Think it’s gonna work?” Xander asked as he surveyed their handy work.

“It’d better,” Dawn answered.

“It will,” the two witches answered simultaneously.

“Hope so. They need lots of orgasms,” Anya said. Everyone stopped and let those words sink in.

“Um, Ahn, sweetie, I think we all could have done without the imagery.” Xander casually slung an arm around his girlfriend. Willow rubbed her hands together.

“I’ve put a binding spell on them so that they can’t move until they say the magic words,” she grinned gleefully as she wiggled her fingers in the direction of the bound Watcher and Slayer.

“You are so cruel. I like it,” Anya declared.

“Let’s go. Leave them a little privacy,” Tara suggested. The group agreed and filed out the door. It shut leaving the frozen couple alone in the living room. The door opened again and Willow poked her head in.

“Unfreeze,” she muttered. She withdrew her head and quietly shut the door behind her.

Buffy and Giles continued with their sentences like nothing had happened.

“—what the bloody hell you’re doing to me!”

“—the chips and dip.” They looked at each other and tried to spring apart, but Willow’s spell kept them together.

“Hi Giles,” Buffy said a little sheepishly.

“Buffy,” he replied in greeting. There was an awkward pause. “I take it this is Willow’s doing?”

“Guess so.” The tingly feelings Buffy had for Giles since before Riley left last year was growing into a feel-good warmth all over her body. Being in his arms like this, only strengthened the love she had for the former librarian. Unconsciously, Buffy rested her head against Giles’s chest, listening to his heartbeat. She smiled when it sped up.

Giles rested his chin on her crown and thought about the ways he would hurt Willow when and if she got back. Though he was in seventh heaven, having Buffy in his arms, it was a misuse of her powers doing this. Little did he know…

“Where is everybody?”

Buffy managed a shrug. “Who cares?” Giles smiled. Only Buffy.

There was music playing in the background. Willow had left the stereo on and it was playing one of Dawn’s CD’s.

“You wanna dance?” Buffy asked before Giles could get the words out of his mouth.

“I’d love to.” They swayed gently to the music, musing on their love for each other.

I just don’t understand
Why you’re running from a good man, baby
Why you wanna turn your back on love
And why you’ve already given up
See I know you’ve been hurt before
But I swear I’ll give you so much more
I swear I’ll never let you down
Cause it’s you that truly I adore

And I can’t help myself babe
Cause I think about you constantly
And my heart gets no rest over you
You, you, yeah

You can call me selfish
Cause all I want is your love
You can call me hopeless, baby
Cause I’m hopelessly in love
You can call me un-perfect, but who’s perfect
Tell me what do I got to do
To prove that I’m the only one for you
So what’s wrong with being selfish

I have no sodding idea, Giles thought. What is wrong with being selfish when it comes to love?

I’ll be taken up your time
Till the day I make you realize
That for you there could be no one else
I just gotta have you for myself
Baby I would take good care of you
No matter what it is you’re going through
I’ll be there for you when you’re in need
Baby believe in me

Cause if love is a crime
Then punish me
I would die for you
Cause I don’t want to live without you
What can I do

You can call me selfish
Cause all I want is your love
You can call me hopeless, baby
Cause I’m hopelessly in love
You can call me un-perfect, but who’s perfect
Tell me what do I got to do
To prove that I’m the only one for you
So what’s wrong with being selfish

Buffy thought about all the times she had been selfish in her love life. Too many to count. And that was mainly with Riley. One of the most unselfish things she had ever done was to give up Angel, even though she was still in love with him. A part of her heart will always belong to him.

Why do you keep us apart
Why don’t you give up your heart
You know that we’re meant to be together
Why do you push me away
All that I want is to give you love
Forever and ever and ever

You can call me selfish
Cause all I want is your love
You can call me hopeless, baby
Cause I’m hopelessly in love
You can call me un-perfect, but who’s perfect
Tell me what do I got to do
To prove that I’m the only one for you

Selfishly I’m in love with you
Cause I’ve searched my soul to know that it’s you
To prove that I’m the only one for you
So what’s wrong with being selfish

Buffy lifted her head and repeated the last line of the song to Giles.

“So what’s wrong with being selfish?” She stared into his eyes, seeing pools full of love. For her. Her heart leaped for joy as he bent down. Their lips met in a kiss that was full of magic and love. Though it was brief and chaste, when Giles pulled back it left Buffy wanting so much more.

“Buffy, I love you. I have for awhile now,” Giles whispered.

“I love you too, Watcher-mine. Since before Riley left even. I was just too scared to tell you. I’m not sure why.”

“Rejection perhaps?” Giles suggested. Buffy smiled softly. “Maybe.”

“You have no need to fear my rejection, Buffy. My heart is yours. It has been since…well, it seems like forever anyways.”

“If I give you mine, will you take care of it?” Buffy asked hopefully.

Giles smiled. “Always.” He kissed her again and without thinking, moved his hand to tangle in her hair. Buffy’s arms came up from behind his back to curl around his neck. He scooped her up into his arms without breaking the kiss and headed for the stairs.

“Giles?” Buffy murmured against his mouth.

“You know we can move now right?” Giles broke the kiss and look at the position he had Buffy in. A naughty glint appeared in his eyes. “All the more fun we can have,” he whispered huskily. Buffy laughed as he dashed up the stairs.

“Thanks Wills,” she whispered.

“Okay, Dawn, you’re going to spend the night with me and Tara, okay?”

“Sure,” the younger girl agreed. Willow turned back to the window the Gang was watching. Willow smiled to herself, reading Buffy’s lips, as Giles carried her up the stairs and into her room.

“You’re welcome Buffy.” She turned and faced her best friend and his girl. “Happy Birthday, Xand. You like?”

“I like a lot. Thanks Will.” He got a little closer to the red head. “Now,” he started, “where’s my real present?”
