Along the wayAUTHOR: Gabriele Schulz
The Aagaard Band. He had read about that before. He left his chair behind the counter and went into the backroom, opening the door quietly.
Buffy had had an especially exhausting encounter with vampires the night before and he had sent her to the couch immediately after she had turned up, still half asleep.
There were few customers anyway, as always, and he had started reading a book, as he usually did. Now he went to their private stacks to find that book about the Aagaard Band. When he got it he went back into the backroom and his glance fell on Buffy, who lay asleep on the couch.
He approached her sleeping figure, then crouched down next to her head. Her face was pressed into the couch and he was sure the pattern of the material could be seen on her face, when she would wake up. Her lips were slightly open.
God, how beautiful she looked.
He traced her whole face with his eyes, getting as near as he dared, without having to fear that she would wake up. He so seldom had the chance to watch her. At least without being caught, which he had been more and more frequently, since they worked together. She usually smiled a short, but very infectious smile and he would as a result turn away and blush.
But now she was asleep.
He imagined bending his head forward and kissing her. How she would wake up at first slightly surprised, but then responding to his kiss. How he would hold her lovely face in his hands. How she would move her arms around his neck, to pull him even closer.
He reached out one hand and traced his fingers along her face, without actually touching her.
Then a sighed whisper escaped his mouth.
For a second he thought that her even breathing faltered, but then it was over.
He just watched her a moment longer. Then the bell rang.
He turned around, then back to Buffy, taking a last look, before getting up and walking into the salesroom.
"Can I help you?"
When she heard that he was gone, a smile played over Buffy's face, before she turned around once again trying to sleep.
