Buffy sat in her dorm room, learning. It was a hot day and there weren’t many vamps outside so she decided to skip patrol. Instead, she sat at her psyche book and tried to understand the words.

She never came further than the second sentence.

She always thought about how Giles had saved her the night before. A demon had attacked her from behind and she hadn’t seen it. Giles had killed it before she even noticed. Again, he’d saved her ass. And she’d said ‘Thank you’ and left to see Riley.

Her conscience was angry. It didn’t leave her alone. ‘Go see him. Show him you appreciate him in every way. That you don’t only see him as Watcher-man.’

"Aargh…" Buffy let out a bothered sigh. Her conscience was right. She did never show him that she needed him, liked him as a friend, that she lo… wait a sec, loved him? As a father. Yeah, that was okay, but not LOVE love. It was a daughter’s love, was it?

Giles sat in his living room and read a book. He never came over the first sentence.

His mind floated around one thing. How helpless he’d felt as Buffy’d said ‘Thank you’ and had left to see that commando guy. His heart ached. This was not the first time she’d done that but this time it hurt more then the other times.

The ringing of his phone cut into his thinking. He got up and took the receiver.

"Hi Giles! Do you feel like party?"

"What? Buffy, what do you mean?"

"Well, Will, Xander, Anya and I wanted to go to the Bronze today and thought you’d come with us."

"Buffy, you know I don’t like the Bronze. And I doubt you’d want to be seen with an old man." His voice was dripping with sarcasm.

"Oh Giles, please, we’ve had this conversation already and you know I won’t be ashamed or something if anybody sees us together."

Giles let out a irritated sigh. Buffy knew she’d won.

"OK, then we’ll pick you up at 9. Bye."

"Yeah. Bye."

Giles put the receiver away and sighed again. She’d talked him into ‘bronzing’ again.

The Slayerettes arrived at Giles’ at 9.15 and knocked. The picture they got was shocking in kinda way.

Giles wore old jeans, well worn, a white T-Shirt and a pair of doc marten shoes. It suited him. It seemed similar to the outfit he’d worn during the band candy thing.

"Wow." was all Buffy managed to say.

"He looks kinda sexy." Anya said.

"Shut up, Anya." said Xander.

"She’s right." Willow grinned.

"Shut up, Wills. Please." Xander felt quite inadequate.

Giles smiled. He’d shocked them somewhat. But that they thought he looked sexy was something he hadn’t expected. He looked at Buffy. Her mouth was opened, her eyes staring at his well-built chest.

"Is something wrong, Buffy?" he asked, his voice teasingly calm and normal.

She nodded. "I’m fine." Then she met his eyes. "You look great."

"Thank you."

Smiling, they left for the Bronze.

Giles sat at a table in a corner of the Bronze, watching Buffy as she danced with a young guy. He murmured something about being too much ability to change as he thought of her relationship with Riley.

Buffy felt his eyes on her and the sudden urge to tease him came over her. Willow and the others were only meters away, but she didn’t care. What was important was that Giles saw her. She turned her back to Craig, with whom she danced, and wiggled her bottom against his groin, only centimeters separating their bodies.

Giles’ jaw dropped. She was dancing way too sexy for a girl her age. Wait. She’s no girl. When did you start thinking of her as a girl? I always thought she was the most amazing woman you ever met.

He let out a small growl, possessively. She was his. In some way.

Buffy felt how his tension’d grown in seconds. She turned back to Craig as the song ended and smiled a ‘thank you and I hope I’ll never see you again’-smile at him, then headed for their table. The others stayed on the dance floor.

"Hey Giles."

"I hope you had fun."

"I had."

Silence came between them. Buffy cleared her throat.

"Are you bored?"

"Would you care if I said yes?"

Buffy flinched at the harsh tune of his words. Giles regretted it immediately.

"Buffy, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…"

"It’s ok. I understand you. You have to feel very bothered. I’m sorry."

She wanted to get up but Giles grabbed her arm.

"Buffy, don’t."

"Don’t what?"

"I really appreciate your company, much more than you think. You’re my Slayer, my Buffy. I could never be bothered by you."

She sank back on the seat. "You sometimes do."

"Sometimes. But then there is you. Your smile. Your sense of humor. I could never get enough of that, Buffy."

Buffy was lost in her thoughts for a second. Then she smiled. "I’ll be right back." She stood up and went over to the DJ. Giles followed her with his eyes. What was she up to?

She returned to the table as the fast rhythm of the last song disappeared and a slow song started.

She smiled. "Would you dance with me?"

Giles smiled as the first words sunk into his mind.

*When I’m lost in the rain
*In your eyes I know
*I’ll find the light
*To light my way

Together they went over to the dance floor. They smiled a bit awkward, then he laid his left hand loosely on her waist, placed her right on his shoulder and entwined their other hands. Slowly, they started to move with the rhythm.

*When I’m scared
*Losing ground
*When my world is going crazy
*You can turn it all around
*And when I’m down
*You’re there
*Pushing me to the top
*You’re always there
*Giving me all you’ve got

Buffy smiled and moved closer to him, loving the feeling of his warm hand on her waist and his eyes holding hers.

*For a shield from the storm
*For a friend
*For a love to keep me save and warm
*I turn to you

Finally, she laid her head against his chest. He smiled and pulled their entwined hands to his chest, holding her small in his.

*For the strength to be strong
*For the will to carry on
*For everything you do
*For everything that is true
*I turn to you, I turn to you

The Slayerettes had returned to their table as the song’d started and watched the pair.

"They look so right together." Anya said.

"Right." was all Xander said.

Willow smiled. She’d always guessed they’d see sooner or later.

*When I lose the will to win
*I just reach for you
*And I can reach
*The sky again
*I can do anything
*Coz your love is amazing
*Coz your love inspires me

Buffy stiffened a bit at the words. Was that really what she felt? Giles looked down on her head, sighing at the words. Oh, had they come from her heart, had she meant it…

*And when I need a friend
*You’re always on my side
*Giving me faith
*Taking me through the night

"Is that about us?"

*For a shield from the storm
*For a friend
*For a love to keep me save and warm
*I turn to you
*For the strength to be strong
*For the will to carry on
*For everything you do
*For everything that is true
*I turn to you, I turn to you

"I don’t know, Buffy. Do you… do you want it to be about us?"

*For the arms to be my shelter
*Through all the rain
*For truth that will never change
*For someone to lean on
*For a heart I can rely on
*Through anything
*For the one who I can run to

"It sounds so much like us."

"Then it shall be, my dear."

She raised her head, tears glistening in her eyes. He looked at her.

"Buffy… I love you."

Her eyes widened. She’d never really thought he felt that way.

"I love you too… Rupert."

Their lips met in a soft and tender kiss, their tongues immediately dueling.

A scream of success came from a table in the dark corner. Giles and Buffy looked towards the table where the Slayerettes sat and shouted with joy.

The pair smiled at each other.

"They knew it."

"They obviously waited for it."

The song ended and they returned to the table. Willow looked at Buffy with wide eyes.

"Willow, is there something you’d like to know?"

"Are you kidding?! I’ll die if you don’t tell me every detail!"

"No, please, no details." Xander couldn’t take the silly grin off his face.

"OK, guys, show’s over. Could you come down again? Please."

They sat down and Buffy snuggled against Giles chest. Then she turned her head towards him again.

"I love you."

"I love you too." he whispered in her ear.
