Giles woke up to a clicking sound. He waited for a second and there it was again. Something being thrown against his window. He got up and looked down. Buffy was standing in the moonlight waving up at him when she saw him. He opened the window.
"Buffy, what are you doing down there? It's 2 o'clock in the morning."
Within seconds she had climbed up and sat on the roof smiling at him.
"Are you insane?"
"Yes, insanely in love with you."
He couldn't help smiling, but still didn't quite no what to make of this.
"I appreciate this as you very well know, but it still doesn't explain, why you are throwing stones at my window at 2 am in the morning when your bedroom is down the hall."
"Rupert, you know that we promised Dawn to wait before we...?"
"And I respect that. I agree that it's a good thing. But when I lie in my bed all alone I can only think of you. I had to see you."
"And I suppose knocking on the door didn't give you the thrill of possibly shattering my windows?"
"No-oo. I would have simply come in and slipped into bed with you, but remember the last time I did that? Restraint is not one of the things I'm good at. You are just too sexy in your silk pyjama bottoms. I can hardly stand sitting her without crawling inside and running my hands through your chest hair..."
She closed her eyes and breathed in deeply.
She opened her eyes again.
"I love you, Rupert. I miss you every second when I can't be with you."
He looked at her wondering not for the first time how on earth he deserved her. He leaned through the window to kiss her. It was a sweet and tender kiss.
"I love you, too, Buffy. And I think I can only stand being apart from you, because I had to for so long."
"I'm sorry I woke you up."
"No, Buffy, don't be. It means more than I could ever express that you feel this way about me."
They kissed again.
"Good night, Rupert."
"Good night, dear."
He pulled back inside and waited for her to jump down the roof. But she didn't.
"Are you going to stay here all night?"
"I don't know. Perhaps an hour or so. I just want to be near you."
He didn't know what to say. The Watcher in him told him that he should insist that she go to bed, but Buffy was here to be close to the man, not the Watcher. He went to the bed and gathered the sheets in his arms. Then he pushed them out the window and followed.
"Since you aren't planning on going to bed, we might as well make ourselves comfortable in a not-so-comfortable-that-it-is-tempting way."
"You are always tempting."
She smiled at him. He smiled back.
He spread the sheets on the roof, then gathered her in his arms and pulled them around both of them. They lay together, snuggled up close, envelopped in the warmth of the sheets and each other. They kissed chastely and then Buffy rested her head in the crook of his neck.
"I love you, Rupert."
"I love you, too, Buffy."
"Didn't I just prove that?"
"Probably yes. You don't really mind it, do you?"
"That we are insane? No."
"I meant that I woke you up. But that is fine, too. Because I'm afraid I can't ever stop loving you. In *any* way."
He kissed her again and they lay like that all night not caring the least how insane it might be...
