This would go down as it was a good idea at the time. She had decided to do something special for their 1 month anniversary, something that would remind him of the night they discovered the truth. She had been so touched by his singing that it seemed only right to do the same as a gift for him. The only problem was now she was as nervous as she could ever remember being. Oh great I can fight any number of beasts from hell but put me on a stage with a microphone and an audience and I freak out. Sure I could have done this at home, save myself a great deal of embarressment but that wouldn't be the Buffy style now would it. She didn't want to appear weak in front of Giles, not to mention the months of ribbing she would recieve if she backed out now. At least she thought, most of the other people seem to be drunk and thus sound way worse than I do.

Giles was most suprised when she had suggested they go to a karaoke bar for their one month anniversary but nothing prepared him for her volunteering to do a song herself. He watched her fidget whilst looking intently at the song list, my how adorable she was. He couldn't believe how wonderful his life was now that Buffy was his. This month had been the best of his life, so much so that he had planned to make it more permanent very soon. He had been ring shopping but nothing had struck his fancy yet, Buffy deserved nothing but the best and that's what she would get.

He sat up straighter in his chair as she walked on stage, so it seemed did all the other men in the bar. Well why wouldn't they look he thought? She is the most beautiful woman in the world, how could any man not stare? Let them look, he knew where her heart resided. Buffy waved shyly at him and he smiled brightly back. Seeing Giles smile, the smile that was reserved specifically for her, gave her the courage she needed to perform. The rest of the bar faded away until it was just her singing for her man.

"I had no choice but to hear you
You stated your case time and again
I thought about it"

Giles was pleasantly suprised by her voice, it had a sweet musical quality. He thought he recognised the song. Buffy had played it in the car on the way to their dates upon occassion. He reeled his mind back in so he could pay attention to the lyrics, she would have picked something meaningful he knew.

"You treat me like I'm a princess
I'm not used to likeing that
You ask how my day was

You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be suprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it it's all your fault"

His eyes got misty and his chest was tight with emotion.

"Your love is thick and it swallowed me whole
You're so much braver than I gave you credit for
That's not lip service

You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be suprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it it's all your fault

You are the bearer of unconditional things
You held your breath and the door for me
Thanks for your patience"

He had often assumed that Buffy's taste in music was nothing more than noise and nonsensical lyrics but this song had touched his heart. He smiled as he remembered a conversation between them long ago concerning their music tastes and the Bay City Rollers.

"You're the best listener that I've ever met
You're my best friend
Best friend with benefits
What took me so long

I've never felt this healthy before
I've never wanted something rational
I am aware now
I am aware now"

She stared into his eyes and tried to let the words express all the love and admiration she felt for him. She had been blind for so long but she truely was aware now and wanted him to know that. She put everything she had into the rest of the song hopeing he understood how much she truely felt for him.

"You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be suprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it it's all your fault

You've already won me over in spite of me
Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
And don't be suprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it it's all your fault"

She bowed slightly at the end then rushed off the stage. Those in the crowd that were still conscious applauded and whistled. Giles met her at the foot of the stage and swept her up into his arms. She was rewarded with a passionate kiss for her performance.

"So I've won you over hmmm?"
"Completely Mr Giles, would you have it any other way?"
"Never Miss Summers, I'm afraid you're stuck with me and there's nothing to be done about it."
"I think I can handle that."

She smiled then pulled him in for another kiss, tonight's gift was a successful one she decided.
