Quietly, Buffy closed the door to Giles' apartment behind her. The early morning air was fresh and clear from the previous night's rain and was cool on her skin. She shivered involuntarily…from the crisp air or the horribly early hour to be up and about…she didn't know which.

She hated leaving Giles' in the morning. She had never been an early morning person. She had never been a morning person! Let alone early enough to return to the dorm room she shared with Willow before her best friend stirred.

She hated sneaking about, not being able to talk to Willow about Giles. She hated not being able to tell someone about Giles. But Mr Caution-Worrier guy was concerned for her reputation.

Buffy couldn't understand how they had come to fight about their brand spanking new relationship sooo soon! It had only been three weeks and last night had begun so well. Take out Chinese to share, pillows and blanket on the floor, video they both wanted to watch…a recipe for a perfect evening in…IN…again!

That was the problem! They were at home…again!

"Giles can't we go out to a movie or have Chinese at that new restaurant near campus?"

Giles' smile faded, "I thought you would like this. I thought this would be nice, just we two, comfortable at home."

"But this is all we have done! And it is cozy, and it is nice, but I want to be out and about with my new man. Show him off to my friends."

"I don't think I'm ready to be paraded in front of all and sundry just yet Buffy. A…and what about your reputation? Hmm? Do you really want to be seen with one of UC Sunnydale's old Professors? Do you really want everyone on campus to know that we…we a…are…together?"

There was a moment of silence and instinctively Giles new he had made a tactical error. The look on Buffy's face said it all. And then in a tiny little voice,

"You don't want anyone to know!" Buffy's hands went to her face in horror. "I wasn't going to 'parade' you! Oh God! You don't want people to know that you and I are…are together? You don't want your university colleagues to know about me, do you? You don't touch me or kiss me in front of Willow or Xander! You don't even want them to know!" She looked up at him aghast and went to move away from his touch.

Giles made a grab for her before she could get up from the blanket.

"Buffy, love. You know I'm not used to showing my feelings in public. You know that for years I've struggled to be conservative and circumspect. What is it you and Willow call me…Emotional Marathon Man?" He brushed the side of Buffy's face with the back of his long supple fingers and kissed her forehead, then her mouth, gently deepening the kiss. He lifted his face from hers and Buffy allowed him to cradle her body in his embrace. "God Buffy, I don't know how I stood my life all those years before this. Being so close to you but not have you in my arms," he pulled away and grinned at her, "or in my bed."

"You were in denial!" Buffy responded dryly.

"I was in denial?" Giles shot back at her.

"OK! OK! We were in denial."

"I don't know what I'd do without you Buffy. For me this is just too good to be true. I don't want to have anyone say we shouldn't… we mustn't… are we sure?… is this for the long haul? It's no one else's business. I don't want us to become public property Buffy. I want us to have time to belong to each other first. Maybe it's because I…"

Buffy quieted his words with a kiss. "OK. I get the picture. Here we are at home…all snuggly and comfy. It's just us. Sooo…" Buffy undid the buttons at the neck of his Polo shirt. "Can I have a kiss now?"

Giles smiled and sighed a soft "Yes" into her hair.

Buffy knelt up and moved in closer to kiss him, not on the lips, but on the skin she had uncovered at the base of his throat. Giles shivered, but raised his chin to giver her greater access. Buffy's kisses moved along Giles' jaw line while her hands moved to the waistband of his trousers where she began to free his shirt, sliding her warm hands around his body.

"Oh God Buffy. Don't ever stop wanting me."

He heard a soft snap and he was aware of his trousers being undone. Obligingly he lifted his hips to help. He was so hot!

Before he had a chance to reciprocate Buffy's caresses, his shirt was pulled off over his head and Buffy's wet, open-mouthed kisses headed south. Kisses were brushed across his pebbled nipples, which were then sucked and licked. Giles' breathing caught as Buffy's breath disturbed the fine line of hair that arrowed from his chest, across his flat stomach, to his pubic hair. His voice almost deserted him.

"Oh, God!" Giles' head tipped forward to watch the back of Buff'y's head descend to his now naked groin. She kissed his growing erection and resettled herself facing him but kneeling with a leg either side of his leg. Giles had to part his thighs to make her comfortable. He leaned back against the couch. Buffy hitched her skirt up a little so she could sit on Giles' thigh and she stretched her arms up around his neck lacing her fingers through his hair. With a wicked smile on her face she wiggled forward rubbing her now damp knickers over the coarse hair on Giles thigh. Buffy closed her eyes as the delicious friction coursed through her body. Giles just moaned gently holding her hips.

As Buffy heard his sigh she looked into the passionate depths of her loves eyes. All he had trouble voicing was there, spread out for her to see, his love, devotion and loyalty to her. She moved in close to his face kissed him briefly then licked his lips to part them. Giles was like someone starved. He sucked hard inviting Buffy's marauding tongue deeper into his mouth.

One of Buffy's hands slid to Giles' groin gently encircling his painfully hard penis. He broke the kiss and whispered

"Careful, luv. It won't take much for me to lose control."

"Hmm? Lay back for me Giles."

As he slipped back down from leaning on the couch Buffy slid down his thigh angling his other so his knee was bent and raised. She settled herself alongside his body where she had easy access to him. She licked and kissed her way from his hip to his bent knee and went down on him, taking his throbbing penis wholly into her hot wet mouth. He groaned. This was so sweet he could hardly bear it. Buffy ran her eager little tongue around the ridge at the head of his penis and sucked firmly. Giles unintentionally arched into her, lifting his hips and his buttocks off the blanket. Buffy took the opportunity to cup his testicles in her hand and gently knead the soft sack containing two firm globes. She was excited at how quickly Giles responded to her.

Suddenly Giles' body went rigid and he gasped her name. His warm essence shot into her mouth. Buffy swallowed what she could but Giles ejaculation was so strong that some spurted from her mouth and onto his stomach. Quickly Buffy began to slurp up these juices tickling Giles' stomach and the two of them laughed together.

Giles wrapped Buffy in his arms and the two lovers retreated to the bedroom. In a haze of love and deep seated passion they made love again that night in the comfort of Giles' big bed. Twice.

In the morning when Giles woke he was alone. He hated waking alone. It made the previous night's passion seem dream like, unreal. He also hated not being able to tell anyone about his relationship with Buffy. God how he loved her and how he hated denying her in public. But his sense of honour, of propriety was almost inbred. He wouldn't risk Buffy's reputation for anything. He could imagine how Joyce would react too and he wouldn't do anything to come between mother and daughter. Giles ached just thinking how long it would be until he could lose himself inside her again.

He rolled onto his side and reached to the nightstand to retrieve his glasses and found, as well, an envelope. It was handmade and had a card inside. Sitting up cross-legged on his bed, Giles put his glasses on, opened the envelope and removed the card. It was also hand made, red, with lots of different coloured heart shapes all over it. There was a message from Buffy.

My Dearest Giles,
I'm sorry we argued. It's just that I love you so much. You make me so happy and I just want the world to know how wonderful you are. I love you and I'll see you tonight. I'll do a quick patrol before I see you at The Espresso Pump.

Happy Valentine's Day Giles. Your present is in the CD player.
Choose the first track and press play.
Yours as always,
Buffy xxoo

Before showering and dressing Giles wandered downstairs to find Buffy's CD Player on the coffee table. Cautiously he selected the first track and pressed play. A guitar refrain gently wafted about the room before a mellow female voice sang.

I can feel the magic floating in the air
Being with you gets me that way
I watch the sunlight dance across your face
And I've never been this swept away

All my thoughts just seem to settle on the breeze
When I'm lyin' wrapped up in your arms
The whole world just fades away
The only thing I hear is the beating of your heart

'Cause I can feel you breathe 'cause watchin' over me
And suddenly I'm melting into you
There's nothin' left to prove
Baby all we need is just to be
Caught up in a touch a slow and steady rush
Baby isn't that the way love's supposed to be?

I can feel you breathe, just breathe

In a way I know my heart is waking up
As all the walls come tumbling down
Closer than I've ever felt before and I know
And you know there's no need for words right now

Cause I can feel you breathe your watchin' over me
And suddenly I'm melting into you
There's nothin' left to prove
Baby all we need is just to be
Caught up in a touch a slow and steady rush
An' baby isn't that the way that love's supposed to be

I can feel you breathe, just breathe

Caught up in a touch a slow and steady rush
An' baby isn't that the way love's supposed to be

I can feel you breathe, just breathe

I can feel the magic floating in the air
Being with you gets me that way…

Giles was truly taken aback at the intensity of emotion in the song. To finally realize that this truly was how Buffy felt about him. It was true; she loved him from her soul. It was a revelation that lifted a shadow from his heart.

Giles was already into his set at The Espresso Pump when Buffy arrived after patrol. It was really crowded as the evening was a special Valentine's Day fundraiser for the charities supported by UC Sunnydale. The venue was full of members of faculty, students from the college, as well as local people. Buffy spotted her friends at a table near the small stage and made her way to join Willow, Tara, Xander and Anya. Giles sang another two numbers to complete his set.

When the generous applause quieted Giles addressed his enthusiastic audience.

"Ladies and gentlemen. I'd like to dedicate my last song for the evening to my very own Valentine, the woman I love, my partner in all things…Buffy Summers."

There was a general murmuring from the audience that stilled once Giles began to sing.

Have I told you lately that I love you?
Have I told you there's no one else above you?
You fill my heart with gladness
Take away all my sadness.
Ease my troubles, that's what you do.

For the morning sun in all its glory
Greets the day with hope and comfort too
You fill my life with laughter
And somehow you make it better
Ease my troubles that's what you do
There's a love that's divine
And it's yours and it's mine like the sun
And at the end of the day we should give thanks and pray
to the One, to the One.

Have I told you lately that I love you?
Have I told you there's no one else above you?
You fill my heart with gladness
Take away all my sadness
Ease my troubles that's what you do
Take away all my sadness
Fill my life with gladness
Ease my troubles that's what you do
Take away all my sadness
Fill my life with gladness
Ease my troubles that's what you do

Have I told you lately that I love you?

Buffy now sat with tears in her eyes and on her flushed cheeks.

Giles thanked his enthralled audience, put down his guitar and walked across the floor to where Buffy sat with her friends. He leaned in towards her and kissed her upturned mouth before he said, "I love you Buffy".

Buffy threw her arms around him and sniffled into his chest. "I know. But thank you, thank you thank you."

"When did that happen?" Xander demanded of Willow.

"Don't ask me!"
